5 Twists to Your Classic Spaghetti Recipe
As Federico Fellini said, "Life is a combination of magic and pasta." We've round up five of our favorites - from Fettuccine to Cajun pasta - that you can serve for your World Pasta Day celebration!
Whether you’re a big fan of carbs or not, pasta will always occupy a special spot in your heart or we should say stomach. As Filipinos, we love the sweet taste of spaghetti sauce coupled with hotdogs and lots of cheese on top that reminds us of home and childhood memories. In fact, spaghetti is a staple food for birthdays, Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Here at RecipeTV, we encourage you to play around the most classic of pasta dishes - be that carbonara, pesto chicken, or good old tomato-based pasta - and add flavor twists to make them even better! Here are some ideas you can try this World Pasta Day:
1. Putok batok pasta: Aligue and Franks Pasta
Combine German Franks plus the rich flavor of Aligue (crab fat) and you’ll have wickedly delicious pasta. This deadly but heavenly pasta also uses cream, lemon juice, and herbs like cilantro. 2. The ‘pa-healthy’ pasta: Chicken Asparagus Pasta
If you’re trying to lose some weight, you can cook this Chicken Asparagus Pasta which includes veggies like asparagus and carrots containing fiber and other vitamins essential for healthy living. It’s also cream-based but you can add ham for additional flavor.
3. Ang kakaibang pasta: Chicken Cajun Pasta
Are you a fan of spicy food? Can you take the heat and the strong taste of spices? If so, then this pasta is for you. Inspired by Cajun food (which originated from Louisiana, USA), this Chicken pasta uses different kinds of pepper to achieve its savory fiery taste: green and red bell peppers, black and cayenne pepper. This is good for those who want to explore new flavor or rendition for their same old pasta.
4. Cheese, please: Sausage Fettuccine
Fettuccine may be the most popular entry in the list, but it is definitely the hardest one to master, especially its creamy sauce. For our own version, we included chicken stock, all-purpose cream, butter, franks, and loads of cheese to achieve that succulent flavor. If you’re on a tipid date night, you can cook your loved ones this yummy dish.
5. Taking pesto to a whole new level: Grilled Chicken Pasta with Coriander Sauce
Pasta cooked with mustard? Why not! This grilled chicken pasta levels up the ante when it comes to pesto dishes. Some of the ingredients it uses are cashew nuts, coriander leaves, and chicken, perfect for those who want to shed a few pounds.
